Levonorgestrel is a synthetic progestogen. At an increased dose, levonorgestrel could prevent pregnancy by delaying release of ovum (egg) from the ovary, interfering with fertilisation of ovum by sperm or interfering with implantation of fertilised ovum into the uterine wall.
