Smile Makeover

Your smile is usually the first thing people notice about you. A healthy smile can be an indication of your overall health and happiness.

Introduction

Your smile is usually the first thing people notice about you. A healthy smile can be an indication of your overall health and happiness. In a single expression it defines who you are, and when your smile is beautiful you exude joy and confidence. A dazzling smile can ignite a room, projecting an image of self assurance and high personal esteem. Today, advances in restorative dentistry have made it possible for dentists to create beautiful smiles that look completely natural.

What Is Smile Makeover?

It refers to any combination of aesthetic dental procedures that enhances the beauty and appearance of the smile, restoring the bite, returning muscles to their natural position and correcting most aesthetic flaws:

  • crooked teeth can be straightened
  • chipped, broken teeth can be repaired
  • missing teeth can be replaced
  • gaps between teeth can be closed
  • gummy smiles can be recontoured
  • stained, discolored teeth can be whitened
  • and so much more.

A smile makeover may include any combination of procedures to make porcelain veneers, tooth coloured fillings, crowns, bridges, or tooth whitening.

How Is It Done?

The first step to a beautiful smile is a complete and thorough examination by your dentist to determine your oral health status. Any oral health issues have to be addressed and treated before any aesthetic or corrective work can begin. When the foundation is healthy, then you can move on to the “artistry.” You and your dentist will discuss your goals and expectations of your new smile

  • What do you want your smile to look like?
  • What are the things that you don’t like about your smile that you want to change?
  • What are the options available to achieve that goal and
  • The estimation of cost involved to create that smile

Together, you will determine the “style” of your new smile. Sometimes the dentist may even show the mock-up (demonstration) of the new smile to illustrate how it will look like upon completion of the aesthetic dental procedures.

Once the “style” of the desired smile has been determined, certain procedures (for veneers, crowns, bridges) are carried out to provide you with a temporary version of the “new smile”. Two to four weeks later when the permanent restorations are ready, the temporaries are removed and the restorations are then bonded to the teeth.

Complications

There are no known complications associated with a smile makeover as long as you take care of your oral hygiene and go for your regular dental examinations.

How Long Will Your Smile Makeover Take?

The duration of a smile makeover depends on the different procedures or treatment rendered. If all you need is tooth whitening, then your smile makeover may be completed in about an hour. If you need extensive work like porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns, your smile makeover may take a couple of visits to the clinic.

Cost

The cost of a smile makeover depends on the actual treatment plan. The most common version of a smile makeover is simply the 10 anterior and premolar teeth, or upper front, veneers. The cost per veneer can range from RM280 to RM1500 depending on the lab fees, skills, expertise and location of the dental practice.
