Examples of menu planning for a diabetic patient (1800 kcal/day)

The menu below  is only a sample of one day menu for diabetic patients who require 1800kcal/day (normal body weight of 60kg).

Calorie needs are different for each individual and menu planning need to be tailored according to patient’s actual requirement, activity level, lifestyle and preference.

BREAKFAST (7:30 – 8:30 am)
  • Fried mee hoon (1 Chinese bowl)
  • 1 cup of tea + 2 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder
LUNCH (1:00 – 2:00 pm)
  • White rice (1 Chinese bowl)
  • Chicken breast paprik (1 piece )
  • Stir fried green leafy vegetables (1 cup)
  • Pisang emas (1 whole)
  • Plain water
AFTERNOON TEA (4:00 pm)
  • Wholemeal bread (2 slices) + margarine (1 teaspoon)
  • 1 cup tea + 2 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder
DINNER (7:00 – 8:00 pm)
  • White rice (1 Chinese bowl)
  • Fried chilli kurau fish (1piece)
  • Stir fried green leafy vegetable (1 cup)
  • Orange (1 whole)
  • Plain water
SUPPER (10:00 pm)
  • Cream cracker biscuits (6 pieces)
  • 1 cup of black coffee without sugar
